Colombia faces a profound structural crisis characterized by persistent socio-economic inequality, systematic human rights violations, and the historical aftermath of a prolonged armed conflict. These conditions have led to high levels of extreme poverty and a climate of impunity, disproportionately affecting youth, who represent nearly half of the population. In this context, transformative initiatives are urgently needed to address these challenges holistically. The MUSICAYARTE Foundation proposes a concrete response through this project.
Justification:
This project is founded on the necessity to create cultural and ecological spaces that act as catalysts for social change. These environments aim to foster community cohesion, strengthen artistic skills, and develop active environmental awareness. By integrating advanced pedagogical strategies with immersive nature experiences, the project seeks to empower youth as agents of social and environmental transformation.

2. BACKGROUND
About the Project: Limited opportunities for cultural and educational participation have led to a progressive loss of artistic heritage and a growing disconnection from the natural environment. This situation adversely affects the sensitivity and creativity of young people, as well as their commitment to environmental preservation. This project addresses these challenges through an innovative approach that integrates artistic expressions and ecological activities.
About Musicayarte: (www.musicayarte.org) MUSICAYARTE is a non-profit foundation dedicated to the recovery and promotion of artistic culture in Colombia. It fosters economic opportunities and builds platforms for peace through art and education.
3. IDENTIFIED PROBLEM
Children and youth from the most vulnerable socio-economic strata in our country face a context marked by violence and a lack of development opportunities. These circumstances result in systematic violations of their human rights, fostering values and actions associated with abuse and mistreatment in various forms.
The causes of this violence and mistreatment are complex and multifaceted, encompassing psychological, socio-economic, cultural, and historical dimensions. This phenomenon cannot be reduced to the individual behaviors of a few; it is a structural issue affecting society as a whole, requiring deep understanding and comprehensive action.
Violence, at its core, is a social and historical reality. It arises and evolves through forms of human interaction, shaped by processes of coexistence and confrontation within society. It is also a manifestation of inequities, power struggles, and ever-changing social dynamics.
In this context, the educational system has the responsibility to implement strategies that equip children and youth with effective tools to develop non-violent attitudes and a profound appreciation for the preservation of the natural environment.
Artistic expressions, in particular, play a fundamental role in this process. They provide a channel for emotions and thoughts, facilitating the acquisition of essential skills and values to address these issues. By stimulating creativity and empathy, the arts become a powerful medium for fostering significant change.
Thus, the educational mission must be accompanied by active civic participation, promoting in children and youth a non-violent mindset, a genuine appreciation for a healthy natural environment, and peaceful coexistence. Artistic manifestations constitute a key tool to catalyze these changes and build a more equitable and harmonious society.
4. JUSTIFICATION
Promoting and fostering artistic expression—specifically through music and painting—focused on teaching children to preserve nature and their environment, provides a solid foundation for developing values and healthy attitudes. By involving them in these artistic expressions, we enable their integral development and a happy, free childhood. Artistic experiences are perceived through the senses, and the sensitivity with which we help children develop from the start of their education will influence how they see, touch, hear, or feel. This reservoir of experiences will help them understand not only their artistic expression and vocation but also their capacity for interaction, comprehension, and desire to live in a healthy environment surrounded by nature.
If children feel their own importance, are given the opportunity to play and interact with peers in a natural environment, and find emotional outlets to express what is on their minds, they are less likely to experience problems with violence. It is not an exaggeration to say that childhood experiences fundamentally shape whether they live in fear and frustration, develop timid or inhibited personalities, or whether they grow up free, capable, and with a positive outlook. Research confirms that artistic expressions and the natural environment significantly influence a child’s personality development and, consequently, their future.
Children engaged in creative activities that cultivate freedom and initiative grow up with a spirit of appreciation for individual differences. These children develop tools to face their futures, establish new social resonances, and activate recognition processes that enrich the collective heritage of their communities.
Art and nature are not merely emotional escapes but also enduring sources of satisfaction for children. They help organize thoughts and feelings through creative materials. As Gabriel García Márquez stated in Manual for Being a Child, “Children are born with the vocation and aptitude for an art, and both parents and teachers play a crucial role in discovering these talents, which not only develop their creative abilities but also guide them in choosing their professional futures.”
In conclusion, supported by research conducted by the Foundation and information from the Ministry of Education, it is evident that art in all its forms, combined with a healthy natural environment, reduces violence rates among children and youth.
5. PROJECT OBJECTIVES - 5a. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES - 6. DESCRIPTION OF SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
5. PROJECT OBJECTIVES
– Identified Issues
Children and youth from the most socioeconomically vulnerable strata in our country face a context marked by structural violence and a lack of meaningful opportunities for personal and community development. This environment perpetuates the systematic violation of their human rights, fostering cultural patterns and behaviors associated with abuse, mistreatment, and social exclusion in all its forms.
The underlying causes of this violence are inherently complex, stemming from an intersection of psychological, socioeconomic, cultural, and historical factors. These issues cannot be reduced to isolated individual behaviors; they represent a multifaceted phenomenon that reflects systemic and structural failures in society. Addressing this problem requires a deep understanding and an integral approach that tackles both its causes and consequences.
Violence, as a social and historical reality, not only arises from conditions of inequity and exclusion but also constantly reproduces and transforms through human interactions and confrontations. These dynamics are tied to struggles for power, persistent inequalities, and processes of social disintegration and reorganization.
In this context, the educational system plays a crucial role in implementing strategies that equip children and youth with effective tools to foster nonviolent attitudes, build emotional resilience, and develop a deep appreciation for the preservation of the natural environment as the foundation for a balanced life.
Artistic expressions, in particular, provide a powerful platform to address these challenges. They act as catalysts for social transformation, enabling participants to channel their emotions and thoughts constructively. Through creativity, empathy, and critical thinking, the arts facilitate the acquisition of essential skills and values needed to overcome the structural challenges faced by vulnerable communities.
The educational mission must integrate active citizen participation, promoting in children and youth a nonviolent mindset, an intrinsic respect for their natural surroundings, and harmonious coexistence. Artistic expressions, combined with innovative pedagogical approaches, form an essential tool for catalyzing these changes and fostering the construction of an equitable, sustainable, and resilient society.
